Zombies And Holidays!

So again days and days have passed since I last wrote a blog post; my excuse is that I've been busy with work and BBF, but I thought I'd get another post in before I fly out to Jordan tomorrow.

I think in the future, I'm not going to tell any of my clients that I'm going away. It astounds me that literally EVERY time I decide to leave town, I give them ample warning and then they all forget I'm going and then either dump lots of work on me at the last minute or reschedule work until I get back so I'll be overloaded then instead. I could tell them I can't do it, but then I run the risk of them not giving me any work.  This was definitely one of those things about being a freelancer that I never actually considered.

But now I have pretty much got everything done and all I have left is to pick up some organic Clipper tea for Star Trek Girl, collect my Dinars and pack my case.  Not that I even have much to pack to be honest - I don't have any long-sleeved lightweight tops or thin trousers so will be wearing my friends clothes all week, plus I'm not bothering with toiletries either as I'm not going for long and she'll have shampoo. Basically I'm only taking hand luggage which I hope will be fuller on my return than when I leave!

It's my birthday when I'm away and my oldest friend (I've known her the longest, not that she's an old woman) bought me a fabulous Pentax digital camera for my holiday. I couldn't believe she bought me such a fabulous present - she usually gets me good presents away (I'm very fond of things with lids but have possibly reached saturation point) but this was really thoughtful. I've nearly worked out what everything does and everything!

Today I'm going to see the 4th Brighton Zombie Walk, and then it's White Night too. This is a festival from 6pm to 6am to mark the end of British Summer Time where tonnes of indoor and outdoor (mostly) free events happen all around Brighton from churchyard story-telling and animation shown on the sides of buildings, to operatic performances from town balconies and random yarn-bombing. They have pianos placed around town, all the museums and galleries are open, and lots of surreal street theatre and displays take place. It's pretty cool.

And then tomorrow I wake up, get my stuff together and fly out to Jordan to see Star Trek Girl and catch some sun - see you all when I get back! x

STG's Post - Brighton Zombie Walk

One of my dearest friends has gone overseas for 10 months, and as I used to spend a lot of time with her, I have promised to write a weekly post where I give a summary of what has been going daaahn in Blighty, Brighton and with me - this way we don't have to do major catch-ups on Skype and she can just check her blog post. I'm also persuading her to get a Blogger account so we can all see what she's been up to as well.

So Star Trek Girl (STG) here is post number one! On the day the clocks changed you missed White Night - it was a bit la-la and pretentious and you didn't really miss out on anything spectacular. Brighton is pretentious enough so they didn't really need the encouragement - the Phoenix Gallery really outdid itself on the up-your-own-arseness however!

Today you missed the Brighton Zombie Walk which was brilliant! They started from The Station at 3pm and staggered and dragged themselves to the West Pier. The weather has been very mild and it stopped raining which could've ruined everything!

I only intended to pop down and have a look but it was so much fun that I followed them all the way to the Pier. The centre of town came to a standstill and everyone thought it was marvellous. I was really surprised that nobody got hit by a bus though, as people were absolutely everywhere! The police had a bit of a time trying to control it all.

Seeing a couple of hundred zombies coming towards you on the seafront is a bit unnerving and 2 of them chased me until I jumped up on a bench and broke eye contact! There were quite a lot of photographers and the basketball guys just coolly carried on playing.

Not much else to tell you really; I have a bit of a cold and am settling into the new house very well. I saw I missed a call from you but when I tried to call you back it was too late. I went to see The Fantastic Mr. Fox (strange going without you) but I will write a post about that later.

Miss you girly and can't wait for you to get back. I hope you are finding your feet ok, and that you settle in very quickly. So until next week then... x
